master of life in earth, sky and sea

…and the adventure begins, the most exciting and fulfilling journey imaginable

What is happening is God’s doing

I have the pleasure of meeting with an older gentleman who wants to study the question, “Why does evil exist?”  More specifically, he wants to follow God but is struggling with a God who will allow evil to rule and conquer and is satisfied that there is a Supreme Being but that being is not intimately involved or at least seems not to care with the dealings of our life here on earth.

Of course, just by meeting with me, he is hoping that he is wrong and my prayer everyday is that I may be used of God to reveal Him in my life.

Since I do believe that God created evil, and since I do believe He is the God of the universe, in complete control, hearing the prayers of 2 billion Christians around the world at the same time, inhabiting and bringing to life these souls to a place of holiness and seeking those that are lost so that they may be saved…

…I believe that what is happening is God’s doing.

How I respond to that is a different matter.

Sometimes God wants me to fight, sometimes to love, sometimes to lay down my life, sometimes to give, sometimes to really give, and other times rest in Him while He fights for me.

I think that discerning the signs of the times and understanding the will and heart of God is crucial in our world today.  To many of us have rules and judgements that are set in stone and unable to bend when God says bend or to change direction when God calls for a new path to follow.

My discussions with this gentleman covers the killing of 12 million Jews by Hitler’s Germany, the birth of a child with mental and/or physical problems, the suffering of children in general.  So we try to see what God’s plan could have been – and we come up with lots of them yet they seem insufficient because why did they have to happen at all – God could have just done it and we are back to the why question.

Since my issue is not in the “why” but in the “how do you want to use me today” – we miss on a few cylinders.

I pray that the name of Jesus never leaves your lips today and that you call upon Him always to save you.  May you see His hand of grace extended to you and if not, then maybe another day, when you ask Him to show you what He did for you that day, He will.

These considerations should reconcile us to our losses and troubles, that God is the Author of them.  If we secure the favour of God, not all the universe can hurt us.

  1. You know this is another “WHY” question that God has answered to. But the problem is that the King James translated it so poorly I had to search several translations just to get some kind of revelation to see it. Here is the TRUE reason WHY God “allows” evil. First and foremost, God does not do evil just to be “mean”.

Job said, “But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” (Job 2:10).

We shall always receive evil because God said, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and NOT OF EVIL, to give you an expected end.”

The evil that God brings about is NOT for evil sake. It’s for AN EXPECTED END.

With Joseph that evil was “MEANT” for Good. God is not a respector of person. Therefore ALL EVIL is not meant for evil, but FOR GOOD! That evil that happened to Christ on the Cross was MEANT FOR GOOD for the whole world, NOT IN THIS LIFE, but to give US AN EXPECTED END in the next life.

God teaches man by compare and contrast! It was necessary, in fact MANDATORY for Adam to eat the fruit in the Garden. He now KNEW good and evil. When God told him he would DIE for eating it, Adam had NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT DEATH (Evil) WAS, therefore Adam did NOT understand LIFE (Good).

After the fruit, they now KNEW was good and evil was, what life and death was, what blessing and curses was and all the things Solomon mentioned in Ecclesiastes Chapter three like love/hate, war/peace, rip/tear, etc.

But here’s the problem! They could NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE or discern what good and evil is WITHOUT HELP FROM THE SPIRIT. That’s why Isaiah Cries out, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness (evil) for light (good), and light for darkness; that put bitter (evil) for sweet (good), and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! ” (Isa. 5:20-21).

To be conformed into the image and likeness of God aka like Christ they needed to KNOW AND DISCERN THIS. That’s why in Hebrews it says, “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age [MATURE LIKE CHRIST], even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised [trained] to discern [TELL THE DIFFERENCE] both GOOD and EVIL.” (Heb. 5:12-14).

In the end Paul says that the Church (who is to be conformed into the image of Christ) to JUDGE THE WORLD. Before we are able to do that we are called to MATURE AND BE LIKE CHRIST SO WE CAN KNOW GOOD FROM EVIL AND MAKE PROPER JUDGMENT! You don’t put judges even in human courtrooms who don’t KNOW THE LAW!

Paul says, “And WE [THE CHURCH] KNOW that God works ALL things [GOOD AND EVIL] together FOR GOOD to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose [this purpose is called the HIGHER CALLING, Paul called it ‘the saints shall JUDGE THE WORLD]’. For whom he did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son [just like Genesis 1:26-27 with Adam and Eve], that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He did predestinates, them He also calls: and whom He calls, them He also justifies: and whom He justifies, them He also glorifies.” (Romans 8:28-30).

The good and evil trials that we go through in life are to prepare us to JUDGE the world!

The question is now, “What is the Purpose of Evil AND the purpose for GOOD?”

That’s the REAL question. You cannot ask one without the other. Here is the purpose of Good (Remember the scripture I used yesterday?):

“Or despisest thou the riches of His goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?” (Rom. 2:4).

Good is designed to LEAD THE TURN TO GOD! This is why He tells us to let people SEE our GOOD WORKS!

    Here’s the purpose of Evil:

“And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail has God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith”  (Ecclesiastes 1:13).

What a horrible translation! My King James has three superior numbers in this one verse indicating three different words in the margin. Especially the last phrase:

“…this sore travail has God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.”

What pray tell does that mean? One of the most all-encompassing and profound verses in all Scripture, and most translations butcher it beyond understanding.

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE: “A thankless task God has appointed for men to be busied about.”

JEWISH PUBLICATION SOCIETY: “…it is a sore task that God has given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.”

NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION:   “What a heavy burden God has laid on men!”

YOUNG’S LITERAL TRANSLATION: “It is a sad travail God has given to the son of man to be humbled by it.”

This is really an important verse; we have got to get it right. Young’s Translation gets a little closer to the truth than the KJV or the previous three references. He got the humbled part right. But what is all this “sad travail,” “heavy burden,” “thankless task,” business all about? It is not that difficult if we will just look at the Hebrew words:

Ecclesiastes 1:13 from the King James:

First, the word “this” may be better translated “it,” as some have done.

But far, far more important than all, the word “sore” should be translated “EVIL” as almost none have done. It is the Hebrew word ra which always means “EVIL,” and is translated as “evil” in hundreds and hundreds of other verses. Why not in this verse? The few times that ra is translated “sore” in the KJV, it ALWAYS means “evil” as in “evil sickness” or “evil troubles.”

The word “travail” in the KJV is not out of line with the Hebrew, but is nebulous and not easily understood by most. It would better translated as “employment” or “experience.”

And we have already seen from other versions that the KJV “exercised” is better translated “humbled” as Young’s and Concordant has done.
Here then is a proper translation of this most profound verse:

“It is an experience of evil Elohim [God] has given to the sons of humanity to humble them by it” (Ecclesiastes 1:13, Concordant Old Testament).

Now we can easily understand what is being said in this verse.

This “experience of evil” is not the purpose or goal of human existence, but this is indeed the process by which God is bringing His Sons and Daughters into glory! Most translations have hidden the meaning of this verse of Scripture.
The translations just couldn’t believe that God would do such a thing. They see it all around them. They see it in thousands of Scriptures, but they just couldn’t bring themselves to come right out and say it, as God obviously has stated in the original Hebrew of this verse.

“It is an EXPERIENCE of EVIL that God has given to the sons of humanity to HUMBLE them by it.”

And to this agrees the rest of Scripture:

“For ALL his days are SORROWS, and his travail [experience] GRIEF…”  (Ecclesiastes 2:23).

The destiny of the human race is indeed GLORIOUS, but the journey is filled with evil and sorrow. This not to say that there are not many beautiful and good things in life, but for most the misery far, far outweighs the pleasurable.

“That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside Me. I AM the Lord, and there is none else. I form the light, and CREATE DARKNESS: I made peace [good], and CREATE EVIL: I THE LORD DO ALL THESE THINGS” (Isaiah 45:6-7).

Notice that God did not create light to shine IN the darkness. No, God “created” darkness, itself. Darkness is not just the absence of light. Darkness was created by God. It does not “naturally” exist independent of His creating it.

God is a Teacher! And without Evil He cannot teach us how to be GOOD! Without Sin He could not teach us how to be Righteous!

    • you know you nailed it again – covered every possible expression – you even got the other words in the Bible that could easily be ascertained as evil – like “sore.” I hope there are those who read the comments because you are really bringing it on!

      • I always tried to add value to others. I for some odd reason don’t believe in arguing “points” and tearing others down. I mean there is a time for debate, but the Scriptures says in private. I was on one “doctrine blog” and all they do is argue back and forth PUBLICLY adding to the non-believers strong hold on why NOT to get involved with Christians. They should have taken that to email or talked on the phone or Skype or something. It’s doing more harm then good. Believe me I LOVE A GOOD BIBLE FIGHT! LOL! But not in front over people, especially before the planet over the internet on the top blog hosting sight in the world! lol!

  2. Also sorry for length. This subject is harder to teach in short verses without explaining it! Christ bless you brother!
